Joan Prentice
In a way, this business was born out of a mother’s frustration in attempting to get a decent, professional-quality photo of her children, one of whom has multiple disabilities.Having studied journalism/photo-journalism some years ago, Joan Prentice returned to her love of photography shortly after the birth of her son, who, because he can’t sit, or pose, or smile on cue, was not a good candidate for the often hectic “table-top” photography sessions one finds in some department stores, or even for professional photographers with no knowledge, or perhaps more importantly, interest and comfort in working with people who have different needs.

While she loves to work with all families, Joan has a particular interest in working with those families who, for whatever reason, don’t do well in a standard studio setting.

Noise levels, other activity in the area, lighting (natural is best), time of day, number of other people in the vicinity – these all have an impact on the success of a photo session for any person, but more so for some. At Beautiful People Photography, these factors play a key role in booking a family or portrait photo session – the family knows what environment works best for them, and we count on the family to tell us in a pre-session interview which can take place by telephone or email to make sure that the photo session is relaxed, unhurried, and an enjoyable experience for all.
